July 4th

July 4th and boating just go together. Like burgers and cheese.

Know what doesn't go well with July 4th?

This:

Yes, this was the weather as we were waiting for the fireworks to start. I had looked at the radar before we left the dock and really did think we would be ok. It looked like the heavy stuff would just skirt us.

And then it, didn't.

We were on the hook and one of my guests, who I might add is ex-Navy, was getting seasick. Shortly after this photo it started POURING. Oh and then there was the lighting. The boat was rolling 20-30 degrees and just staying off the deck was becoming an issue.

So, as the captain, I made a command decision. I pulled up the hook, and headed back to the dock.

We didn't get to see the main fireworks, but the folks along the creek gave us a "private" show anyway. All and all, except for the fact that dinner came at 11pm, it was still a pretty good day - even if we did miss the fireworks.
